Book Review!

Here is a book review on two outstanding books I have read. They are "crochet related" but not crochet books. They are the first two of three books in what is called a Crochet Mystery Series by Betty Hectman. Each book builds on the one before, however, they are stand-alone stories. They feature a crochet pattern that is used in the story as well as a recipe that was cooked in the story. Both of which can be found in the last few pages of the books.

In The first book, Molly Pink, the main character, finds herself joining a crochet group (The Tarzana Hookers) even though she can't crochet. Through the course of the book, she learns to crochet, finds a passion for crocheting she never thought she could have and solves a msyterious murder. This title was thrilling and didn't give a hint as to "who done it" until the last few pages!!! Thumbs Up!!!



In the second book, Molly Pink and The Tarzana Hookers are really getting along with their charity work and getting over the murder they were all somehow tied up in, until another mysterious murder happens in an antique shop that they are all visiting. The story progresses with full suspence until the very end!!! Thumbs Up Again!!!



I will be purchasing the last of the three books this weekend and hope to have it read before I return back to school on the 6th. At only $6.99 each for paperback (less than that if you have a membership card for Barnes & Noble) you can't beat it. A great read, a great pattern, and a wonderful recipe all for less than $10 is a steal!!! I highly recommend these to everyone; and I sincerely hope that book 3 won't be the last of the series by Betty! Guess I'm going to have to get her address and write her beggin for more. LOL

School is going very well. I am absolutly loving it! So far, straight A's!!! (Yay Me!) I squeeze in my crocheting whenever I can and am still enjoying it so much. Crochet really releases the tension when other things will not. There is nothing more satisfying than realizing you have completed another "heirloom" item. I have made my grand daughter 2 afghans, one for each of my sons and 1 for myself and my husband. Now I am working on 1 for my daughter. I am also working on a tiny purse. Amelia is now sitting up and playing with toys and everything that has a strap or cord, she hangs it over her arm like we carry our purse, so I figured why not make her a purse.

I'll be posting lots of pics of my latest crocheted creations, my family and some of school... (probably will be done after exams next week)

Going back to college after 20 years

I have made the decision to go back to college and get a degree. I am going for Medical Assisting and I start on April 5th. Orientation is on April 1st. I'm kind of nervous since I have been out of school for so long, I am aboit to attend my 20 year high school reunion in July.

My daughter was a huge motivator in my choice. She has been suggesting it for years. For the last 4 months, I have worked a day or two here and there due to not having any work (worked in my Dads construction company). I felt it was time for a change and my husband said do whatever I felt best. With my youngest now 11, why not go back to school? So, within a few hours I toured the campus, enrolled, aced the entrance exam and filed for my grants and student loans. When I came home that evening and told my husband and kids, they were so excited. That made me feel very confident that I will succeed with no problems. They are behind me 100%. I am super excited about starting and can hardly wait! I don't think the 1st will ever get here...

Pictures of Amelia Jane coming very soon. She's perfectly healthy and georgous! Miriah graduates in May with her first degree, then its back to school in the fall for her. She's working on a Masters in English. Wants to work on forensic linguistics specialty.

The anticipated arrival of our first grandchild is so exciting. The entire house is abuzz with shopping, planning, decorating, preparing for the shower and chatter of the joy to come. Even the boys are coutning down the days until their sweet little niece will be born. William has even picked out what he wants to buy Amelia for her first Christmas.

I have started crocheting a great little sundress for her in size 6 to 12 months. It's from a pattern in a book I have entitled "Crochet with Bits and Pieces". It is turning out so nicely and it's going really quickly. I may make her a couple of them if I like the final outcome. I'll post pictures as soon as it's done.

Miriah and I went shopping for clothes at Walmart, Ross & Old Navy and bought a bunch while everything is on sale for back to school. Her closet is getting overfull. We are going to be painting and hanging wall paper in the nursery over the next two weekends, then we will go baby furniture shopping to stock it! That will be so much fun!

Already July?

Wow! Where has the time gone this year? I can't believe that it is only 4 weeks until my kids are back into school. It seems like this year has just flown by without heistation. It seems like just a few weeks ago was New years.

My daughter had her ultrasound and found out she is having a girl so the baby's name will be AMELIA JANE. She chose Amelia because it's an older name and is very elegant and she chose Jane because my oldest niece (Jane) will be the baby's God Mother. I think she has made a very nice choice. Her boyfriend is just super excited that they are having a girl!

Now, I will begin her scrapbook, and begin crocheting some cute little baby dresses!

I will be posting some new items very shortly. I have been working crazy hours lately so I'm running behind.
